_How Death Came into the World_ is a legend of the Modoc nation whose ancestral lands once covered the region of modern-day northeastern California and southern Oregon, USA. Their story of the origin of death shares many similarities with those of other Native peoples of North America as well as with the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice. * * * _This is a companion discussion topic for the original article at [https://www.worldhistory.org/article/2606/how-death-came-into-the-world-modoc-legend/](https://www.worldhistory.org/article/2606/how-death-came-into-the-world-modoc-legend/)._ * * * **Join the Conversation** - What did you think about this article? - Does this match what you've learned about the topic before? - If you've studied this topic, what would you add for other readers?
