Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971) was a Russian composer best known for his works for the stage, such as the ballets _The Firebird_, _Petrushka_, and the groundbreaking _The Rite of Spring_. The modernist composer lived in Switzerland, France, and then the United States. Stravinsky's experiments with rhythms and dissonance have led to him being described as the 20th century's most important composer.
