I am confused about Mr. Mark’s claim (I have used it as the title) from the article at the link?

Hi. What are you confused about? The Ceide Fields have been recognized as the oldest known farming field system in the world. This is not an unusual or esoteric claim. So I’m a bit confused as to what is confusing here. Thanks for any clarification.

Hi - nothing you are citing includes an intact field. Yes, obviously, agriculture began before the time of the Ceide Fields - but the Ceide Fields are the oldest known farming fields identified in the world. This is not my opinion. This is historical fact. Nothing you cite here includes an identifiable field. This is all common knowledge concerning the Agricultural Revolution.

As Josh said, it is without question that agriculture started in the Fertile Crescent. However, the oldest known stone-walled fields for which there is archaeological evidence are the Ceide Fields. There were likelly older fields in Mesopotamia, but so far there hasn’t been any archaeological find that was a field. Possibly because such fields weren’t stone-walled?

Hi again - I apologize if I misunderstood you, but you seemed to be saying that many intact fields exist from ancient times prior to Ceide. That is not so. At least, not at this present date. As of Right Now, the Ceide Fields are the oldest known farming fields identified in the world.
