_The Legend of Ticonderoga_ is among the most famous ghost stories of the last 200 years and remains a favorite among folklorists and, especially around Halloween, storytellers at seasonal events. Any summary or discussion of the plot would ruin the tale, which is given below, but the story involves the Scottish nobleman Duncan Campbell, mortally wounded at the Battle of Carillon, 8 July 1758, when the British forces and their provincial regiments tried – and failed – to take Fort Carillon (now known as Fort Ticonderoga) from the French.
