I’ll be honest: I hate the American accents, the modern slang/dialogue (“my dad is coming home.” Seriously?!), and the fact that there are so many well-known actors in it. It just takes you out of the story, as faces we know so well keep popping up. I really wish they had cast relatively unknown actors in the main roles.
Of course, I’m still going to watch it when it comes out, but I don’t have high expectations.

I also hate American accents. And I’m American. I once had an American friend who claimed the French had no idea they had an accent - but that’s entirely true of Americans as well.
I think the movie should have been cast with unknowns - but understand why it was not. What I do not understand, based solely on the trailers I have seen, is why it seems Odysseus is battling medieval European knights in full armor. I will see the movie just to get an answer to that question.
Haha, I just think they’re the wrong accents to use for a historical film, when the standard seems to be using English accents.

I agree! It’s weird but to me, American English feels out of place in the ancient world. It makes no sense.
Nice to have a new blockbuster that is not about some super hero or other deadly creature, though. I am not bothered about the language (if I went to see it at the cinema, it would probably be shown in French anyway) but I agree with Liana, some lines in the trailer sound really off. May the film encourage some to read Homer’s masterpiece!
I agree, Babeth. It seems like every second movie is either about a superhero or some disaster/action movie. It’s nice to have something set in the ancient world. There is a wealth of interesting stories that could be told, and I hope it kicks off some other epic historical productions.

So… has anyone seen it yet? I tried to book for Monday but it’s fully booked all next week here. 
All history, perceptions, interpretations, & retellings are from anachronistic standpoints; we cannot escape that; just as the original would be unintelligible to us.
I’ve not seen it yet. Perhaps I’ll wait awhile. My favorite and the one I grew up with (my mental references) are the Kirk Douglas version. But, that dates me.
I’m trying to see it on Thursday or Friday night, but apparently there are only Gold Class sessions available (more expensive and fancy cinemas). All the IMAX sessions are booked out until August. I’m going to keep checking to see if anything else comes up. 
That was a good version, no matter how long ago it was filmed!
I didn’t think it was too bad, although I feel like they were trying to tack on pieces of the Illad into an already long film (why not just make a Illad movie?). The “Greeks as the Sea Peoples” innuendo felt a bit forced as well. Finally, yes, Agamemmnon’s armor is totally anachronistic. But I totally would’ve wanted an action figure of him when I was nine.
