I’ll be honest: I hate the American accents, the modern slang/dialogue (“my dad is coming home.” Seriously?!), and the fact that there are so many well-known actors in it. It just takes you out of the story, as faces we know so well keep popping up. I really wish they had cast relatively unknown actors in the main roles.
Of course, I’m still going to watch it when it comes out, but I don’t have high expectations.

Fair criticism. Big-name casting almost always pulls you out of the story — half the magic of Lord of the Rings was that most cast members weren’t household names yet, so they BECAME the characters instead of bringing baggage.
Modern dialogue updates are the bigger sin for me. Some stories belong in their era. That said, I’ll still watch — low expectations sometimes lead to pleasant surprises. Check it out for honest fan takes when more clips drop.
