Your Impact in Action

July–September 2026

As we close out the third quarter of 2026, we’re delighted to share what your support has made possible—from publishing new articles to expanding our community programs. Thank you for making it all happen!

Your Support Is Making History Accessible Worldwide

  • The encyclopedia now has 4,700 articles and 20,000 images.

  • The top-performing new article was the Battle of Midway, with 4,452 page views.

  • We completed our coverage of the Pacific War (18 articles, 1 gallery, and 1 collection), and we are expanding our content on the US Civil War.

  • The encyclopedia has now published over 100 articles on WWII.

Ink of Ages Fiction Prize

  • We received 1,103 entries for our 2026 Ink of Ages Fiction Prize (almost double the number from last year), with 834 adult and 269 youth category submissions.

  • In the adult category, 41% of entries were historical and 32% were mythological, while in the youth category, 53% were historical and 27% were mythological. The rest were a combination of both!

  • Entries have been screened and anonymized and are now in the care of our dedicated reading team.

  • We’re looking forward to sharing the longlist on November 10.

Fundraising Wins!

Membership Update

  • It is now possible to give a gift membership to someone else!

  • In September, we ran a Back-to-School Membership Campaign to promote our French and Spanish membership benefits (subtitled lectures and a monthly newsletter), institutional memberships, and gift memberships for individuals and schools.

  • The Translation department has been working to expand our members’ offerings. Harrison’s “Experts in History” videos are now being subtitled in French and Spanish, and we are developing a monthly newsletter with behind-the-scenes updates and editorials for our French- and Spanish-speaking members.

Website & Mobile App Development

  • You can now save articles for later reading with one click on the website, just as you can in the mobile app. Next, we’ll synchronize saved articles between the app and website.

  • The mobile app now has a new feature: Today in History! Every day, you’ll see a different historical fact on the app’s homepage, and we’re planning to bring the feature to the website too.

  • We updated our mobile app listings to focus on the keyword “history.” In many countries, our app now ranks #1 for the search keyword “history,” and we’ve seen a marked increase in downloads!

  • We’ve completely redesigned our homepage, introducing new sections for Today in History, Maps, Book Reviews, Time Periods, personalized recommendations, and more. Check it out and let us know what you think on the Community Forum.

  • We also completed a major overhaul of our older code, helping the website load more quickly, especially for search results.

  • Every article and definition now links directly to a discussion in the WHE Community, making it easier for readers to engage with each other and our content.

Business Development

  • We’ve launched the World History Community Forum, where our readers can interact with each other and the WHE team. You can use your existing WHE login, join discussions, and access an exclusive members-only area.

  • WHE is now live with Ekkow, a content syndication partner, and we’ve already been approved for syndication on NewsBreak. We’re awaiting approval from SmartNews and will apply to Yahoo.

  • World History Encyclopedia participated in the NECE Lab on AI and the Future of Historical Learning in Salzburg, Austria, joining teachers, historians, academics, policymakers, and nonprofit organizations to explore how history education can prepare students for an AI-powered world. One takeaway was clear: skills central to historical thinking—discerning facts, evaluating information, and understanding why events unfolded as they did—will become increasingly important. Educators at the conference also highlighted the value of WHE’s articles and maps in giving students the background they need to make sense of the past.

Print Publishing

  • WHE was invited to speak about The Forsaken 14th Century at the SASA Virtual Conference, where Mark represented our team.

  • You can now buy a copy of Dust & Divinity: Ink of Ages Volume Two, featuring 25 winning and shortlisted stories from the 2025 Ink of Ages Prize. The collection takes readers across cultures and centuries through stories of murder, betrayal, hope, resilience, family, art, and even Danish pastries.

  • We are planning a Today in History journal for 2027, to be published in late October. Simeon has designed medieval-themed covers for the trivia journal, and every page will feature a piece of history trivia collected by Josh, making it the perfect gift for history enthusiasts.

Translation News

  • This term, the Golden Stylus has been awarded to four translators: Elisa Mion (Italian), Eliana Rua Boiero (Spanish), Marie-Theres Carl (German), and Yves Palisse (French). We wish to thank them profusely for all their support!

  • We now have 15,000 translations available, and the number keeps growing every day!

  • We are now able to translate and publish Collections—a great way to read articles and infographics around a specific topic in your favorite language.

  • Our French and Spanish pages now offer expanded access to infographics, maps, and videos, as well as institutional memberships, donations, the WHE shop, and our In Memoriam program.

Video

  • YouTube momentum is steadily growing; our most recent videos have consistently reached 1,000+ views.
